For the Fall...

Hello Everyone. I suck so much at updating this family blog of ours. It's not that we're not busy, it's just that we're busy doing the same things. Well, mostly. Here's what's new in the Clouse House:

-Jake's back in school. Only 3 semesters to go after this one!
-He'll also be getting his journeyman's license soon.
-I'm a second photographer for a sister in law of mine. Yay! We're super busy this month and I'm shooting my first wedding on Saturday.
-I'm now coaching 7th grade volleyball at a local middle school. They're good girls.
-Still writing
-Our puppies are as funny as ever...
-Busted out the Fall decor last weekend.. Jake complained that we don't have enough Halloween decor and so I suggest a trip to hobby lobby. His response was, "No! You like all the cutesy Halloween stuff. We need to go to (insert name of halloween store here)" Geez. The man cares about his decorations. Who knew.
-I have pretty much stopped drinking diet coke. 3 in the last month. This is a BIG deal.
-We bought a treadmill. I love it.

That's all! I'll attempt to get pictures of things so this isn't such a drag :)

Summer Days

Hellooooo 4 friends!

Can I just start by saying that I hate summer? Well, I do. I do not like the heat, the mosquitos or the fact that I can't drink tea in the morning without breaking a sweat. I do like grilling outside, though, but you can do that any time o' year in Las Cruces.

Anyway, with summer comes lots of sweaty and adorable little kids. We've gone swimming in the Rio Grande river the last two weekends. It's been interesting. Summer also means lots of watermelon. If you ask our family to vote, I choose yellow meat and Jake chooses red.

The puppies are doing well. Josie is HUGE and has taught Celia how to be more dog-like. They catch birds together and munch them all the live long day. It's gross and cute. They also dig lots of holes together, less gross and significantly less cute, too.

I'm still working for the eye doctor and Jake's still an electrician. I write and shoot to make some extra mula on the side. We're workin' our little butts off to get student loans paid off before we die. Dave Ramsey has taught us well. We'll pay off one little loan in two months. We don't have car payments. We're pretty proud of ourselves for that. *pat on back.

Bellow are some pictures of my most precious and wonderful nieces and nephews. The count is up to 11. We've had 4 new ones since November, with Levi rounding out the pack on July 7th. So much love. These kids crack me up.

In other news:

+I think I bit off more than I could chew for a marathon. But that's okay. I'll be happily running just because I want to.

Oh. Here's a few animal pictures. The world would cease to spin if there weren't pictures of animals.

That's all for now :)

May I present....

Josie!

We "rescued" this lil' pup last week from an animal rescue organization up in Albuquerque. The people said she's a Belgian Shepherd Dog, aka a "Malinois," cousin to German Shepherds. Malinois have shorter hair than a regular GSD and tend to be a bit more petite. Now that we have her, we're convinced there's something else floating around in her gene pool, but can't be sure as to what. Either way, she's adorable. Celia loves her and now is The World's Greatest Dog. It's awesome.

Josie is only 4 months old but had sprouted quite a bit in the last week and is now noticeably larger than Celia who is all done growin'. They're the best of friends. Celia keeps her in line when the puppyness gets out of hand and Josie gives Celia someone to chase and play with. The cats aren't super excited about it, but they're not in a bad place about having yet another pooch to contend with.

A few fun facts about Josie:

1. She cannot play fetch
2. She loves to eat Junebugs
3. She's a big whiny butt
4. She loves bananas and blueberries
5. She still has her puppy teeth but she has a very large mouth. It's like wee little pegs in big ole pink gums. Very goofy looking.
6. Her paws are huge
7. She can bark the alphabet. Okay.. that's a lie.
8. She has a black freckle on the tip of her tongue and on her tail
9. She is not very fast and usually ends up tripping over her own legs when she and Celia are playing chase
10. She eats lying down. Puppy life is hard.

Three Things

First of all, I love food. Second, I love running. Third, I love to eat food after running. Just thought I'd share.

Now that we got that out of the way, I must share a few {more} things.

Number One:

French Toast is good with cottage cheese, une banana y chia seeds. Yum. I was skeptical of the combination, but after seeing it done on my favorite blog, I decided to give it a whirl.

For my French toast I used one egg and maybe a quarter cup of almond milk, a half teaspoon of vanilla and a couple shakes of cinnamon. Voila. Oh and use the super hearty healthy wheaty bread. It makes a difference.

Next thing.
I love granola bars. I hate how expensive they are. Because of this, I'm not trying out new snack things that I can make at home. This weeks trial was peanut butter energy bites, inspired by my favorite blog.

The original recipe calls for wheat germ, but alas I had none. SO, here's what ended up actually happening:

1 cup Natural Peanut Butter
1 Egg
1 t. vanilla
1/2 cup oat flour
1/2 c. stevia

Preheat oven to 350.
Mix all your stuff in a bowl.
Roll into balls and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 11-13 minutes.
When you take them out of the oven, give em a gently smoosh with a fork.
I've got mine in the fridge to munch through out the week..

Tasty tasty! Especially with that "apple a day."

Last but not least...
I think I'm finally ready to say that I'll be {attempting}training for my first full marathon starting July 2nd. I have been a self proclaimed runner for about 10 years now. I've done two half marathons and I want to do a full marathon before babies enter the picture. There's a marathon in Albquerque, NM in late October. I want to do this one for several reasons:
1. My mom ran this race back in the 80's.
2. It's in October so it'll be cool
3. Plenty of training time.

The training program I selected is for a "rookie," which I am. It'll be a helpful guide to get me through the 16 weeks before show time.

It has never been a goal of mine to run a marathon. Never... Recently I learned I'm a goal chaser. In school I was an over-achiever. Now that I'm all graduated and grown up, I need new things to chase. Also, I just think it would be neat to say, "yeah. I've run a marathon. nbd." AND, everyone loves a race shirt. Wish me luck.

I plan on building a stellar running ensemble. One piece WILL be this hoodie.

Dirty Dog

Celia digs holes.

Celia dug this hole for me today:

But, before she showed me the hole, she showed me her muddy face. She was so cute coated in all that mud. Until I found the hole.. then it wasn't as fun.

I laughed after the lecture was over. She is so cute. She was soooo excited about the hole!

Man Sundae

SO, as we know, I review restaurants n such. Well, this was today's conquest. It was weird.

What you are looking at is, in fact, a Man Sundae...now, that's not what the vendor called it, but it's a personal title I've given it because it's so appropriate. Let me tell you what the "layers" are:
1. BBQ beans
2. Beef Brisket
3. BBQ Sauce
4. Coleslaw or potato salad
5. A Pickle (like the cherry on top????)
6. A pork rib (optional)

Holy Hell is all I can say. I'm sorry for saying hell.

New House...

Yay for moving! Moving may not be fun and unpacking sure isn't pleasant, but having a new home is wonderful. Here's some poorly shot photos of our house and the adventure that is moving and settling in. Don't judge us too much right now, we're a work in progress :)
